Heather, I agree 100%. I felt that way after the Sandy Hook tragedy and after the Boston tragedy. This one is much closer to home. We have people in our firm who have been directly affected by this. And it's times like these that put everything back into their proper perspective.

Those who cannot see why auto tweets/posts are inappropriate at best need to reevaluate their strategy. Such auto tweets/posts say much about the character of that person and/or organization.

And I love you all for talking about Teamability! @Heather, you are just awesome to tell the world about your bitching about getting it done. (I bet it was constructive bitching!) That is so typical of Conductors, who fix the team's problems and get us all back on track. I treasure Jenny, our team Conductor, for that reason. And @Jayne, you are so right. Just because you come up with an idea doesn't mean you're the one to best execute it. (I come up with a lot of ideas. Then, if I am doing my job right, I just get out of the way of the people who shape up the best ideas and make them happen. Meanwhile, I use the time to come up with more ideas....) @Debra, you're talking about the Role of Communicator, the one who creates community and gets everyone on board with the Big Vision. (Paul is our team Communicator. He does all that and much more.) And @Cheryl, it would not surprise me if you filled those two Roles - Conductor and Communicator, because that's what great PR is all about.

If you're interested in bringing Teamability to your organization, or just having your own experience, come on down to www.teamability.com and have a look around.

I love this topic as well. I find these assessments fascinating not just to get insight into myself but to learn about the people who I chose to have in my professional life. It helps me understand why people act the way they do in certain situations. I think the more people understand the role they play on a team and accept their position makes for a more successful team. I think each job is extremely important, otherwise nothing would be accomplished.

I love being a PR professional. I am in Conducting/Connector mode all day long. So, to answer the question in your blog post. Yes, I am in the right job.

I think that Connector isn't a job, per se, but a function of the job.

You do get a Connector (or that role) in The Gabriel Institute Teamability assessment. Which was FABULOUS (and let me tell you, if you could have seen my emails bitching about doing it ... Oy!). You can literally look at their roles, and scroll through the LMA BOD and see so clearly who we all are and the value each of us makes to the team as a whole.

OMG - LOVE THIS. Love, love, love this. Though I would argue that there is a 5th job that isn't listed - one that makes up a role that I (and probably you) fulfill as a marketing professional. That is the CONNECTOR - the person who knows who has which ideas, who does the building, who can make the ideas better. The Connector introduces people, puts together ideas with people, and sources all the pieces needed to make the magic happen.
